Everyone wants to be successful. Everyone wants to be happy. Everyone wants to be loved, respected, live a life that brings them satisfaction, and look like a million bucks at the same time. These goals may be what unites us all, but the truth is, not everyone has what it takes when it comes to putting in the work to reaching these goals. Only some know the secret ingredient to success: consistency.

At Dr. Gena Chiropractic, a family chiropractor in Plantation, we’ve learned that success in any area of your life, whether it’s your health or your relationships – comes from repetition. To be repetitive in anything- to devote a practice of consistency to what you want – IS the secret ingredient that might be missing from your recipe for success.

Part of cultivating a good life is building good habits through repetition and consistency.” – Becky Higgins

Ask anyone who devotes their lives to perfecting their craft or working towards their goals and they'll tell you that practice does, indeed make perfect (or at least it helps you come close). In order to reach this level of success, you must be consistent. One trip to the gym does not a fit body make. One attempt at reaching your career goals will not make you a millionaire.

"I've found that true success comes from commitment. When you're committed to something, you've got to give to it over and over and over again. You can't just shower your partner with affection on special occasions and expect them to feel love and appreciated on the regular. Just like you can't only workout and eat vegetables on Mondays! If you want success in achieving ANY goal, you must work at it consistently, on the regular. Repetition over time is the true recipe for success," Dr. Gena says.

But where does it all start? How do you develop the discipline to remain consistent and repetitive when it comes to being successful?

It all starts in your mind.

A positive, healthy mindset is like the foundation for your dream home. You can’t build something grandiose without a strong foundation, and you can’t put in the work it’ll take to complete your project if that foundation isn’t rock solid. That said, you can practice your backstroke on the tennis court all day long and stay consistent with your lessons, but if your mindset is negative and you keep telling yourself that you stink at tennis – you won’t go far.

Here are Dr. Gena’s tips for consistently maintaining a positive mindset to lay the building blocks for success:

  1. Practice positive affirmations

Affirmations are a way of life for us here. We wake up, set our intentions for the day, and speak them into existence – every single morning. It doesn’t matter what kind of mood we’re in, what ails us, or what is going on in the world. We remain consistent to the belief that starting our day with a positive mindset will carry us through and keep the good thoughts coming. And it WORKS.

  1. Surround yourself with positive people

You can’t expect to be consistent and repetitive in your positive mindset practices if you’re surrounded by a bunch of Debbie Downers! You know that feeling when you enter a room full of good energy and it automatically uplifts you? Find the people that bring out the same feeling in your soul and you’ll never have a problem with repetitive positive thinking – your friends will make it easy for you!

  1. Forgive yourself

On the path to success, whether in your personal life, career life, or on your road to positive thinking, it’s important to treat yourself kindly. This means forgiving yourself when you’ve made a mistake, and realizing that you don’t have to be perfect to find success. Everyone is entitled to a bad day, but remember – repetition is everything. If your bad days are repetitive, your mindset and drive for success will tank. Allow yourself a negative moment and then quickly let it go – every driver gets lost from time to time butonce you’re back on the right path, it’ll be that much easier to stay there.
