There are certain things in life that we automatically associate with being a perfect pair.

Peanut butter and jelly. Bert and Ernie. Chiropractic care and great health.

But at Dr. Gena Chiropractic, a leader in chiropractic care and wellness in Florida, we’ve got another pair that you may not have thought to put together all that quickly.

Concussions and chiropractic care.

Yes, we know, this seems like an unlikely pair, but once again, it’s chiropractic care to the rescue.

In the United States alone, there are over 300,000 sports-related concussions per year. This, of course, doesn’t take into account the countless other injuries and accidents that may result in concussion. And when it comes to the statistics on children and concussions, numbers are steadily on the rise, as more and more kids are getting involved in sports like soccer, lacross, and football than ever before. While we've all seen injuries causing concussions happen during a game, what about the concussions that can sometimes go un-noticed happening during practices where there may not be an athletic trainer present, leaving your kid to just "walk it off.”

Yes, we see this all too often

Scientifically speaking, a concussion occurs when there is a direct blow to the head, neck, or face, resulting in shock to the brain. While you may not notice immediately if you are suffering from concussion, the telltale signs that may creep up slowly are:

  • Vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Increased confusion
  • Unconsciousness
  • Dilated pupils
  • Weakness in on arm/leg
  • Worsening headache
  • Stumbling or difficulty standing upright.

Typically, when there is a force of this nature that is impacting your body, there is going to be some misalignment to the spine, which is just as important to recognize. This is precisely why, if you’ve been diagnosed with having a concussion, it is important to make a visit to your chiropractor sooner rather than later.

Why?

Well, why not? An injury of this kind can also bring with it neck, shoulder, or back pain. Who better to handle your aches and pains than Dr. Gena Chiropractic?

We work with the brain and how it communicates to the other parts of the body,” says Dr. Gena.

“When there is a disconnect, or interference in this system, the body can have a harder time adapting and recovering. Often times, these patients end up in our office as adults, with a whole host of other health issues and concerns, because they didn't understand the importance of having a neurological health check-up following a major injury like a concussion.”

At Dr. Gena Chiropractic in Plantation, we’re located just minutes west of Fort Lauderdale and are here to help you, no matter the reason.

Stay safe, and remember – your health is in your hands, but our hands are here to help!
