About six months ago, we reported on the harsh effects of stress on your body, and how chiropractic care is essential for managing stress.

Here’s the thing though: stressors are still everywhere, and they’re still

impacting us in every way, at all times.

It’s not that we wrote our blog expecting all of your stress to magically vanish. We did, however, write it to educate you on how to best handle stress before it takes a serious toll on your body.

It’s time for a refresher course and another reality check, because like we said last year,

The simple truth is this: if you’re an adult, living, working, and

breathing in today’s society – you’re going to face your fair share of stress.

The most powerful tool you can harness, however, is the ability to deal with stress quickly, avoiding it when you can, and in turn, saving your life and sanity.”

We’re all different, experiencing different emotions and varying life experiences. This means our stress thresholds are not the same, but for any of us, once they’ve been penetrated, our bodies will suffer. Whether it be from problems at home, in the work place, with money, with family, or with anything else that causes you to tense up and react, here’s what will happen to how you feel:

Common effects of stress on your body

  • Headache
  • Muscle tension or pain
  • Chest pain
  • Fatigue
  • Change in sex drive
  • Stomach upset
  • Sleep problems

And then, like a vicious cycle, any symptoms left untreated exacerbate, grow more intense, and like a horrible plot twist, become additional stressors that trigger more uncomfortable responses in our daily lives.

So what can you do? Build a blanket fort and resolve to avoid adulting? Wouldn’t that be fun…

Since you still have to face life head-on each and every day, one of the greatest things you can do for your body to manage the effects of stress is commit to a regular routine of chiropractic care.

Chiropractic focuses on your spine, which houses the nervous system. One of the effects of chronic stress is muscle tension and contraction, which can lead to uneven pressure on the skeleton, which results in subluxations. Adjustments help ease muscle tension, easing the stress on certain parts of the skeleton and to correct subluxations. This brings balance back to the spine, a critical element of managing personal stress.

Above all else, when life gets stressful, remember to breathe – a bad day doesn’t mean a bad life!
