When it comes to health and wellness treatments, longer is not necessarily better.

If you think that just because your healthcare practitioner spends a lengthy amount of time on your treatment automatically means it’s more effective than a shorter session, think again. Many times, people confuse length of time spent in a treatment with the quality of the care or service provided. Take chiropractic care, for instance. When you come for care at Dr. Gena Chiropractic, your favorite family chiropractor in Plantation, you are in and out in no time. Typically, chiropractic care visits can take anywhere from 20-45 minutes, but in our office, routine chiropractic visits tend to be 15-20 minutes max.

Don’t mistake this for us “rushing” through your visit or providing you with any substandard care. The chiropractic profession is made up of various different techniques of practice. Chiropractors are all different human beings, and so of course they will have different approaches to the practice and how they connect with and take care of their patients. More specifically, there are differences in the soft tissue techniques used, i.e. ART, Graston, etc. Some techniques are much more time intensive than others. It’s not that any one of these types of techniques are better than another — they are just different.

You should not judge the level of quality care you are getting by the amount of time spent on the table or in the treatment room. Chiropractic adjustments should not be lumped into the same category as aesthetic treatments like massages or facials that do take at least 60 minutes or more. In these cases, longer treatments most certainly are better than shorter. “I will always take a 60-minute massage over a 30-minute one,” Dr. Gena said. We think most people would definitely agree with that! Massages are all about soft tissue work and/or rehabilitation, so longer sessions are standard for that particular type of service.

In chiropractic care, however, it’s not the same case. We know it is a bit unrealistic to expect people to spend three hours a week in our office — but 2 or 3 visits per week that are no more than 20 minutes? Now that is doable! A typical visit to our office is usually about 15-20 minutes maximum. However, take note that initial consultations and other more in-depth examinations will inevitably take longer, as there can be additional things to go over, such as family health history and X-rays, on top of an actual adjustment. Periodic progress examinations are performed on all of our patients, and those are all extended/longer visits as well.

The main takeaway is that family chiropractor, Dr. Gena, wants you to take away from this is this: longer time spent with your chiropractic care does not necessarily mean you are receiving better care. The quality of your care goes much deeper than this. Dr. Gena and her team put their patients’ health and wellbeing at the top of their priorities, and that means that whether you’re in and out of our office in 15 minutes or here for a 45-minutes consult, you are getting the same caliber of care.

Remember, your health is in your hands; our hands are here to help. Your visit might be short and sweet, but you can rest assured knowing you’re in good hands. To schedule your appointment at Dr. Gena Chiropractic, give us a call at 954-417-5815.
