You know that second really beautiful room in Dr. Gena’s office, the one just behind that first incredible room filled with energy, smiles, and adjustment tables?

That’s where we’re focusing our attention today, ladies and gentleman, and you’re about to learn something that will have you wondering why you hadn’t thought of it in the first place.

(Just remember to thank us later)

Take a walk back to this second room the next time you visit Dr. Gena Chiropractic for some spinal love, and pay a little attention to the two sphere-shaped tubes under the television. These are not part of the décor that makes Dr. Gena Chiropractic the most modern and inviting chiropractic practice in South Florida – these actually serve a very important purpose, when used in conjunction with regular chiropractic treatment.

Myofascial release, or foam rolling as it’s known in the streets, is a process that serves to relieve tension in muscles, giving you the same feeling you’d get from a deep tissue massage (or hug from Dr. Gena). More specifically, Myofascial release (MFR) therapy focuses on releasing muscular shortness and tightness. There are a number of conditions and symptoms thatmyofascial release therapy addresses. Many patients seek Myofascial treatment after losing flexibility or function following an injury or if experiencing ongoing back, shoulder, hip, or virtually pain in any area containing soft tissue.

Another thing to know about MFR? It’s pretty enjoyable to do. And when you do it the right way – feels as great as an afternoon at the spa. This type of practice has become pretty popular among athletes, runners, men, women, and children of all ages – who are looking to keep their muscles from tightening up while eliminating any pain at the same time.

So how would this work?

Well, for one, it’d probably be a good idea to have a chiropractor like Dr. Gena walk you through the process of foam rolling. Then:

  • Pick a roller.

Long rollers are suggested for extra stability and support, much like the ones you’ll find in Dr. Gena’s office. Shorter options are more convenient for foam rolling on the go, whether you’re traveling or using your own foam roller at the gym. The level of firmness depends pretty much on what kind of pressure you’d like in a massage. Like a deep-tissue rubdown? Go for a firmer foam roller. Prefer light pressure? Keep it soft.

  • Start rolling.

Position the area of your body you’d like to ease tension in comfortably over the foam roller and grab the floor for stability. Spend about 60 seconds on each tight area. Use as much or as little pressure as feels comfortable for you. If you find a knot or sensitive spot, linger on it for a little while, rolling back and forth until the tenderness eases. Ten to 15 minutes per day is all it takes to experience the benefits of a Myofascial release. Click here for a video demo on HOW TO foam roll: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1qudgAR3T8

  • Keep adjusting.

The most important way to stay out of the pain zone and feeling great on all levels is with regular visits to your chiropractor. With chiropractic adjustments that speak directly to your nervous system and basically tell your body to get it together, you may find that over time, you’re experiencing much less pain in the parts you initially need to roll out.

With our chiropractic offices located in Plantation, Florida, just west of Fort Lauderdale, you’ve now determined your one-stop-shop for chiropractic care, and a team who will help you roll your way to feeling great!
