There is no “one size fits all” treatment or care plan when it comes to chiropractic. Everyone’s nervous system and overall health is different, which means that each and every patient that comes through the doors of Dr. Gena Chiropractic, your favorite family chiropractor in Plantation, will receive a different plan to reach their individual health goals. Although patients’ goals to restore, realign, and rejuvenate the body may be the same, their paths to get there could differ.

Depending on the patient’s health condition and goals for chiropractic care, there are different types of chiropractic techniques used, along with various lifestyle changes and other therapies/modalities to supplement. "There are so many different techniques that chiropractors use when they are performing adjustments,” says Dr. Gena. “They all work, but it's really a matter of finding what works best for YOU. This is why we practice using a few different chiropractic techniques to best meet the needs of all of our individual patients."

Here are a few of the different kinds of chiropractic techniques that the team at Dr. Gena Chiropractic use:

Manual Technique

This technique is used for musculoskeletal pain, debility and to help restore proper functionality in the body. This is a very hands-on approach, literally. There are no machines or devices used — just the chiropractor’s own two hands, their most powerful tool, to apply pressure on the muscle tissue to actually move the joints.

Manual techniques can help reduce pain, improve mobility and range of movement, decrease and even eliminate inflammation, encourage relaxation and, most importantly, restoration of proper nervous system function.

The three main categories of manual therapy movement include adjustments (you may have heard this referred to as manual manipulation), which is when you may actually hear a popping sound as the chiropractor applies rotational or agitated force to the joints; massage, which involves kneading and rubbing the soft tissue in order to redistribute fluid, relax the muscles, increase circulation, ease muscle tension, break up scar tissue and reduce pain; and mobilization, or stretching, in order to improve flexibility.

In addition, there are different manual therapy techniques depending on each individual patients’ needs: soft tissue mobilization; joint mobilization; muscle energy technique to activate restricted joints and lengthen shortened muscles; high-velocity, low amplitude thrusting to restores the sliding motion of joints and allows them to open and close efficiently; and strain and counterstrain to fix irregular neuromuscular reflexes that trigger structural and postural problems.

At Dr. Gena Chiropractic in Plantation, our doctors mainly practice the full-spine diversified technique along with Activator instrument, Thompson Technique, muscle testing through Applied Kinesiology (AK), Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT), Logan Basic, Arthrostim and Toggle (upper cervical work). Our doctors are also certified in the Webster Technique.

Drop-Table Technique

We often incorporate drop tables in the adjustments served. The drop table technique can be another gentle way of providing care to help restore proper nerve system flow and functionality in the body. The drop table allows for slower, lighter adjustments of the spine so the joint stays within its range of motion.

A special chiropractic table is used for this technique, one that has segments that can be manually lifted up and dropped down, about 1 to 2 inches, by the chiropractor. The patient may be asked to move their body into different positions while laying on the table, so different areas can be pinpointed.

All of the techniques utilized in the practice are focused on helping you achieve results. The team of chiropractors uses objective findings (X-rays, sEMG, Thermal scans, HRV assessments and posture assessments) to determine how well a patient is progressing and any changes that may be necessary to get better results.

"When going to chiropractic school, you are taught many different techniques to adjust patients,” says Dr. Jordan Schaenzer. “This is valuable because no two patients are exactly the same. We take into consideration every patient’s need to deliver the best possible adjustment. That way, each and every patient is taken care of in a way that suits them and their body so that it can function at its optimal level."
