There is no wrong time of life to go see a chiropractor; every age is the right age!

As the saying goes, “from womb to tomb,” which is a phrase coined to refer to something that you continue throughout life, chiropractic care is important at all stages of life. Everyone has a nervous system, and that is exactly what chiropractors work with, so, essentially everyone needs a chiropractor.

The nervous system is an incredibly important part of our physical and mental health and wellbeing. It is the body’s control center. It starts at the brain, and has an effect on every single voluntary and involuntary action we take. It controls things like movement, balance, coordination, thoughts, memories, learning, breathing, blinking, digesting, feeling, hearing, seeing, sleeping, healing, aging, sexual development and other body processes, as well as our responses and reactions to anything, especially stressful situations.

Stress can come from a variety of different things. There are physical stressors, which are those that put strain on the body, i.e., injuries and illnesses, aches and pains, exhaustion and insomnia, headaches, muscle tension, jaw clenching, stomach and digestion issues, etc. As we all know, these are all things that chiropractic care addresses and treats — but, contrary to what most people assume, these are not the only stressors we face in life that affect our nervous system. There are emotional and chemical stressors too.

Emotional stressors are things that trigger our emotions, such as losing a loved one, financial issues, divorce, losing a job, or dealing with mental conditions like depression, anxiety or low self-esteem. Not all emotional stressors are negative though; there are instances where something positive in your life can still cause a little bit of stress, like getting into your preferred college, getting married, purchasing a new home or car, or starting a new career. Chemical stressors are things in the environment that have an affect on our health, i.e., weather, noise, altitude, foods, medications, etc.

All three of these types of stressors can affect how well the nervous system functions, for all people, at all ages. The very first sign of stress we are exposed to in our lives happens the moment we enter the world, during birth. This is why Dr. Gena Chiropractic, your favorite family chiropractor in Plantation, highly recommends that both mom and baby see a family chiropractor for a checkup and evaluation as soon as possible after birth. Many moms also continue to bring in their little ones for adjustments throughout their infant stages and beyond.

Chiropractic care can help to improve reaction and recovery time. While you may associate these things with pro-athletes and sports performance, it goes beyond that. These things are important at any age, regardless of whether you are an athlete seeking that cutting edge, or just anyone looking to maintain their health and wellbeing.

Chiropractic care has a multitude of benefits for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. The body knows no difference, and when it comes to helping patients, we don’t either.
