Chiropractic care can put you on the path to wellness, but the real work starts at home!

Even if you get regular chiropractic adjustments, your personal life at home has a great deal of influence on how effective your adjustments can be in maintaining your health and wellness.

At Dr. Gena Chiropractic, your favorite family chiropractors in Plantation and the greater Fort Lauderdale area, we always talk about the importance of incorporating the Five Pillars of Health into your routine, but it goes even deeper than that.

It really does not take a lot of time, money, or energy to adapt new healthful behaviors to improve your health. Many of these lifestyle changes are simply a matter of taking the leap and doing it. Stop overthinking potential obstacles and making up excuses: these only get in the way of taking care of yourself in the best way possible.

Here are some of Dr. Gena’s top tips and tricks for at-home wellness.

  • Check labels — and not just on food products! Look at your personal toiletries and cleaning products, and check the ingredients. Shampoo and conditioner, shaving cream, soap, laundry detergent, lotions, candles, toothpaste, dish detergent and dish soap, household cleaners… So many of these types of products are made with harmful chemicals. Swap out any chemical-filled items with brands that are more natural to reduce chemical insults and exposure.

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! We cannot stress this enough. Hydration is so important for the body, in so many ways. It keeps our organs working properly, regulates body temperature, delivers nutrients to cells, and is essential to the movement of our joints. Start your day with a glass of hydra-water as soon as you wake up. Add lemon, cucumber, or your favorite electrolyte drops for a little extra energy boost. Doing this first thing every morning hydrates the body and can set the tone for the day.

  • Another morning activity that can help set the tone for the day is to recite affirmations to yourself. Come up with a positive mantra to say out loud to yourself each morning. Use the same one every day to reinforce the message, or switch it up. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something to put you in the right mindset for the day ahead.

  • Stimulate your brain by exposing it to something new. For example, take a new route to work. You will be met with new views of nature, and new people, places and things. Doing this forces the brain to build new neuropathways, which allows you to take in new information, create new experiences and develop new memories.

  • Move as often as possible. This is one piece of advice that we always share. It doesn’t need to be a strenuous run or marathon — just move your body! If you can, get your significant other and/or children in on it and make it a family affair.

  • Make sure you are getting enough vitamin D. Go for a walk outside in the sunlight — barefoot. Get all the vitamin D you can while your body repolarizes out in nature.

  • Look into homeopathic remedies to have on hand to boost your health in a more natural way. Homeopathy is a belief that the body can cure itself using natural substances derived from plants and minerals that aid in the healing process.
